Sarah Palin got another $30K in clothes and accessories

Posted by Iflove Featured Stories on December 5, 2008 at 3:06 am

Sarah Palin got $30K more in clothes and accessories. The Republican National Committee will report Thursday that it spent about another $30,000 on clothes and accessories for Sarah Palin during her vice presidential bid, a GOP source tells Politico.

Alaska Governor Sarah Palin listens to President-elect Barack Obama during a bipartisan meeting with …

Palin took a major public relations hit when Politico revealed that the RNC in September shelled out $150,000 for clothes and accessories from high-end retailers for the Alaska governor, who built her political persona around a folksy, regular-gal demeanor.

The additional spending will be detailed on the committee’s post-general election report, which is due to be filed with the Federal Election Commission before midnight.

The filing will show less than $30,000 worth of “accessories” purchased before the general election for Palin and her family in coordination with the McCain-Palin campaign, according to the source, who said any clothes in the committee’s possession will be given to charity.

And another of Palin’s lies come home to roost. When in the hell are people going to figure out that this woman is a corrupt liar and write her off?

She is the NEW Dan Quayle. Her 15 minutes were up, what, last month? LOL

Where are all the anti-Obama fans now? Could it be they turn a blind eye when its the person they wanted to win doing the wrong doing?

To think she could have been vice president or even president. How much did the DNC spend on barry and michelle? c’mon….talk about liars. And this woman was supposed to help the economy if she had become VP?? She went out of control on spending on clothes within two months! I’m glad she’s done. I wish someone would give her the boot for good and I didn’t have to hear anything about her anymore…I cant stand this woman!

This is a joke. They couldn’t find anything on her so they talk about her wardrobe! Wow a woman that likes to spend a lot of $$$ on her clothes! What a revelation. This is good get it all out now because in 4 years she’ll be in the White House. Obama is the biggest liar and crook out there! He’s the pied piper and the rest of you are the rats!

It boggle my mind that people are so racist that they rather have a lying, twisting dummy as Vice pres. And they call themselves adults with mature minds. It is an example how easily people are led and how malleable they are..Republican got us in terrible trouble and why even listen to anything from them?

I don’t see anything written about Obama’s Armani suits and his wardrobe arrogance. This was the most media-biased campaign in history. Palin didn’t stand a chance in today’s media society unfortunately.

How much did Obama spend on his ridiculous grandious speeches. With the Greek columns for his campaign speeches and everything that was at Grant Park! The guys a narcissist that is completely full of himself and will spend everyones $$ showing how full of himself he is!
The left wing media needs to get a life. They never made an issue out of anyone else’s wardrobe. If criticizing Sarah Palin on her wardrobe is the biggest thing the news idiots can come up with to attack her, that tells me that Sarah Palin is pretty great.

The media never discussed any of the real glaring problems with Barak Obama like the fact that he has no experience whatsoever.

The leftist media even bashed Sarah Palin for changing her major in college four times while the media never had any records at all on Obama’s college career. One ? Did she ask for those clothes? Why didn’t they just let her be herself, I’m sure she had some very nice clothes of her own and clothes does not make a person, if they bought those clothes for her and expected her to wear them she should of kept them.

I guess the media is also affected with the recession. They’ll write whatever that will get people’s attention. Common guys! The election is over. Obama is the president elect. What more do you want? Why all the negative attacks to the lost side? Why don’t you write the fact that democrat senators were the ones to be blame for the mortgage crisis way back in 2004! This is really unbelievable!!!

She didn’t buy the cloths the RNC did don’t think she wore any of it ,talk about lies Obama said out of Iraq in 09 now its 2011 that lie will get our kids killed !!! Why is DNC so damn afraid of Palin she nothing more than a hard working honest women mother of 5 one of which is in that bloody lie called Iraq she’s not going no where get use to it!!! and if she runs in 2011 she’s got 1 vote right here in a heart beat I like honest people who work for what they got

Compared to Obama she is a saint! As for where are all the anti-Obama people now, we’re right here, waiting to see a valid birth certificate. She is wearing expensive clothes, and he can get away with anything and not be held accountable. Do you think Hillary Clinton or Nancy Pelosi spend any money on clothing? (Maybe they are accepting them as donations, which is against the rules by the way) Do you think that maybe you would like to find out about that before you ridicule the Republican Elections Committee for this? By the way, Sarah Palin did not spend the money personally. All you Obama supporters are so blind it is unbelievable! He is the most unqualified individual to run this country I can imagine. I have nothing but fear for our country at this point.

Twilight Vampire Movie Trailer

Twilight Vampire Movie Trailer

Twilight Vampire Movie, here we go: A solid genre romance with particularly strong performances from Stewart and Pattinson. The story begins: A high-school student (Kristen Stewart) is caught up in a romance with a vampire (Robert Pattinson), whose family has renounced the drinking of blood.
TWILIGHT is an action-packed, modern day love story between a vampire and a human. Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart) has always been a little bit different, never caring about fitting in with the trendy girls at her Phoenix high school.  When her mother remarries and sends Bella to live with her father in the rainy little town of Forks, Washington, she doesn’t expect much of anything to change.  Then she meets the mysterious and dazzlingly beautiful Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson), a boy unlike any she’s ever met.  Intelligent and witty, he sees straight into her soul.  Soon, Bella and Edward are swept up in a passionate and decidedly unorthodox romance.  Edward can run faster than a mountain lion, he can stop a moving car with his bare hands – and he hasn’t aged since 1918.  Like all vampires, he’s immortal.   But he doesn’t have fangs, and he doesn’t drink human blood; Edward and his family are unique among vampires in their lifestyle choice.  To Edward, Bella is that thing he has waited 90 years for – a soul mate.  But the closer they get, the more Edward must struggle to resist the primal pull of her scent, which could send him into an uncontrollable frenzy.  But what will Edward & Bella do when James (Cam Gigandet), Laurent (Edi Gathegi) and Victoria (Rachelle Lefevre), the Cullens’ mortal vampire enemies, come to town, looking for her?

This movie is gonna rock the socks off of everyone! ive read the books 3 times each and i plan to read them many more. i cant wait for the fourth book and i cant wait for the movie. the buzz around it is increble, Reelz should do a segment on the fanbase itself, because it is crazy how big it is. it puts the Harry Potter fan base to shame. And i disagree with everyone who says Robert Pattinson isn’t good enough for Edward Cullen. I think he’s Perfect! I LOVE the entire cast, I have no problems with any of them. I think they are all gonna do a wonderful job.

Sooners make BCS case, top Cowboys 61-41 Bedlam win

Posted by Iflove Featured Stories on November 30, 2008 at 5:08 am

No. 3 Sooners make BCS case with 61-41 Bedlam win. News from STILLWATER, Okla. — Oklahoma got all the bounces it needed to get past Oklahoma State in the highest-scoring Bedlam rivalry game ever. But did the Sooners do enough to bounce over Texas and into the Big 12 championship game?

That’s for the voters and computers to decide. The third-ranked Sooners took care of their business on the field.

Sam Bradford threw for 370 yards and four touchdowns, cashed in on a 1-yard touchdown plunge after setting it up with an end-over-end flip, and Oklahoma made a case for a BCS bump with a 61-41 win Saturday night against No. 11 Oklahoma State.

On the line was a shot at the Big 12 title next Saturday against Missouri, and also the edge in the national championship race. The Big 12 South will now be decided among Oklahoma, Texas and Texas Tech in a three-way tie broken by the BCS standings to be released Sunday.

The team that comes out on top will likely be a victory away from going to the BCS championship game in Miami in January.

“I think we have a really good chance,” Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops said. “You look at what we’ve done the last two weeks. We’ve played the No. 2 team in the country and won by 44. We just played the (No. 11) team in the country in their own place, where no one else has beat them, and won by 20.

“Usually it’s what you’re doing at the end of the year, and we have finished the year really pretty strong.”

Texas hopes the pollsters have a longer memory than that, specifically going back to the Longhorns’ 45-35 win against Oklahoma at the Cotton Bowl in October.

A group of Texas fans pulled out all the stops to try to keep the Longhorns in the coveted No. 2 spot in the BCS standings, handing out thousands of signs printed with that score for their game Thursday against Texas A&M.

Longhorns coach Mack Brown was even pleading his case in a telephone interview with television announcers while Oklahoma was making its case on the field.

Brown suggested that the Southeastern Conference’s tiebreaker was better than the Big 12’s because it eliminates the lowest rated team in a three-team deadlock and lets head-to-head decide the winner between the top two.

Of course, that would benefit Texas. But that’s not the way his conference breaks its ties.

The Sooners (11-1, 7-1 Big 12) did the best they could to make up a minuscule eight-thousandths of a point in the BCS standings by putting up as many as they could on the scoreboard.

The problem was Oklahoma State (9-3, 5-3) was able to match them strike-for-strike as both teams scored on six straight possessions beginning at the start of the second quarter. Eventually the nation’s highest-scoring offense was just too much.

And the biggest of the bounces went the Sooners’ way, too. Tight end Jermaine Gresham scored a 73-yard touchdown on a third-down pass that was intended for Manuel Johnson and deflected into the air over three Cowboys defenders and into his arms 10 yards downfield. He was able to outrun the rest of the defenders the final 50 yards to put Oklahoma up 30-19.

Oklahoma’s next touchdown came when Stoops decided to go for it on fourth-and-goal from the 1, after Bradford somersaulted on his dive for the pylon and came up a yard short. Bradford fumbled the snap on fourth down but was able to pick it up and plunge in for the score.

And the reason the Sooners were able to stay ahead in the first place was a rare defensive 2-point conversion, scored when Oklahoma State went for 2 to try and tie it at 21 and instead fell behind by four on Frank Alexander’s return of Robinson’s fumble.

“Sometimes you do need to have a little luck to win, and I felt like there were a couple plays that luck was on our side,” Bradford said. “But I still think that we played very well tonight overall.”

Bradford completed 30 of 44 passes, leading Oklahoma to its fourth straight 60-point game. The Sooners played out of the shotgun much of the game after Bradford injured his left thumb, which led to a few fumbled snaps.

Gresham ended up with nine catches for 158 yards, both career highs, and two touchdowns. Chris Brown had 98 yards on 19 carries and two scores, including one on the first play after a two-section wide swath of Oklahoma fans started chanting “B-C-S” with 32 seconds left.

“Hopefully we’ll be the No. 2 team when it’s all said and done, and we’ll go play in the championship,” Gresham said. “If not, we’ve just got to go with what we’ve got.”

The Sooners’ defense, which had been improving and made a statement in last week’s 65-21 rout of then-No. 2 Texas Tech had few answers for quarterback Zac Robinson and the Cowboys.

Robinson threw for 254 yards and three touchdowns and ran for another score, but never could guide Cowboys (9-3, 5-3) into the lead after halftime.

Dez Bryant caught two touchdown passes to give him 18 for his career, enough to break Oklahoma State’s school record set by Rashaun Woods. Perrish Cox had his fourth career kickoff return touchdown, the most among active players in the country, with a 90-yard dash in the fourth quarter to make it 44-41. But Oklahoma State couldn’t keep it up any longer and the Sooners pulled away.

“We had our chances and just didn’t get it done,” Robinson said.

Robinson refused to get in on the campaigning for any of the three teams in the Big 12 South race, and Bradford said his opinion was “obvious” because he was biased.

“Everything we did tonight kind of says why we should be there,” Bradford said. “It’s out of our hands now.”

The following are just comments, not from the author. Please leave your views afterwards:
East choice OU is alot better than Texas ever thought they could be.
Hey, Texas? What was all this nonsense about a neutral field?! You beat OU on a neutral field? Hmmmmmmm, looks like OU beat OSU by 20 on their field!

i would love to see the Sooners play for the big 12 title… but if i was a texas fan, i’d be upset too since i beat the sooners…. BUT.. who played the toughest season overall and is the overall better team…. OKLAHOMA
Sorry Texas If you could have stopped Tech this would not have happened. Oneplay can ruin a season. Go Sooners! Sonners & Florida in National Championship OU 52 Gators 35
Texas beat unranked Aggies at home. Sooners beat #12 ranked LosuRs by 20 on the road. Sooners play & defeat Missouri in Big 12 championship 2 years in a row? I want to see a Sooner-Tide championship.
OU and Texas should be able to play each other once again, and not on a ‘NUETRAL FIELD”!!! What was all that stuff the other day, on a neutral field?! Come on Texas!

Texas Tech is definitely better than Texas this year, Oklahoma State is probably a better team than Texas as well.

So, just because Texas beat OU, they think they are the better team in the Big 12? One needs to look at the overall season, point scored each game, etc., etc… this just was not Texas’ year.

OU just has the better offense, and defense this year.

Everybody in the Big 12 South played well this year, I just do not think Texas was the best, or the second-best, and maybe not even the third-best!
Gotta go with whose playing the best ball now. Clearly Oklahoma. Won five straight games averaging 58 points (3 on the road). Beat the #2 team by 44 and the #11 team by 20 on the road. In addition, quality wins against highly ranked non conference foes #14 TCU and #16 Cincinnati (by 25 and 26 points respectively). Texas fans are going to mimic their desperate coach and parrot the head to head line, but to no avail.
Did OU beat Texas? Enough said !Head to head. How else can you look at it ? Go Bama….
I don’t really worry bout large style points. Of the 3, TT got beat worst in the round robin. Texas did beat Okla at neutral site( in Texas ??), but Okla homa had tougher out of conf games. and TT played 2 FCS teams or was it 3 ?, there out, Both Texas and Okla will be in BCS bowl, Your conference came up with that 5th tiebreaker never imigining it would happen. Now more food for thought, WHAT if MO upset whoever goes to championship game, Then MO gets Big 12 auto slot and only one of Texas, Okla or TT gets another… very interesting….Rules only 2 teams from any conference can go to the 5 BCS Bowls… Then see the moaning…….love it. on any given saturday a team can be king……
Oklahoma does not even slightly belong in any national championship game.Neither do Texas or Texas Tech for that matter. Football is played on both sides of the ball except in the Big 12. They play no defense and would be wacked by either Alabama,Florida or even hated USC. The offense in these conferences is overinflated due to the total lack of defense and I hope the Heisman is not awarded to a QB from the Big 12. It should go to Tebow again who should lead Florida to a solid victory over Bama next week. That should in turn set up a match made in football heaven. Florida vs USC is what the nation wants to see but if it has to be a Big 12 school let it be Texas. Then the Gator defense will shut down Colt McCoy and put to rest all the hype that is Big 12 football.
Texas could sit home and watch OU lose to Mizzou and go to the national championship. So head to head matchup should mean everything!
Why didn’t the article mention the OSU fumble the referees failed to acknowledge? Why are Texas fans screaming “head-to-head” and failing to mention that Texas Tech is in the mix? You don’t get to ignore the fact that it is a three-way tie and each team has a loss to one of the other teams? BTW, you don’t get to change the rules for determining tie-breakers once you realize the rules don’t favor you. And why does S R assume SEC teams play great defense? Maybe SEC teams are facing what amount to mediocre offenses when they play each other.
Dude…It comes down to head to head. What else ?
If Texas is ranked higher than OU and they beat them …Hello How else do you figure it out. What is TT ranked. No where that means anything. That is how the coputer looks at it. #12 TT means nothing to the computer.Working for the NCaa I can tell you this.
Dude…OU, not Texas, knocked TT down in the polls. The logic of TT not good, Texas good is wanting. Constructing a circular argument doesn’t mean anyone has to buy into it. And Texas’ rank, just like every other team, can change.
Why doesn’t The Big 12 Conference just have
its title game between Texas and Oklahoma ????

That is such a simple answer to the problem !!
The rules are as stated. If OU picked up enough style points they are in, if not then texas is. It’s pretty simple for those of you still trying to make a case for the donghorns!
its simple. The real battle is between Texas and OU. TT is ranked 7th and not gonna win. So head to head Texas won. It doesnt matter when it happened. The right thing to do is have Texas vs Mizzou. It it is any other way it is BS. OU should not have lost to Texas when they had the chance.

Twilight Vampire Movie Takes No. 1 At Box Office

Posted by Iflove Featured Stories on November 24, 2008 at 11:29 am

Twilight Vampire Movie Takes No. 1 At Box Office. The mopey teenage vampire movie, Twilight, took the number one spot at the box office this weekend.

The Plot of Twilight Vampire Movie
Seventeen-year-old Bella (Kristen Stewart) moves from sunny Phoenix, Arizona to dreary, rainy Forks, Washington when her free-spirited mother decides to go “on the road” with her new, minor league baseball-playing husband. She moves in with her disturbingly unobservant father, the sheriff in the 3,000-person town, and begins her junior year at the local high school in the middle of March.

Bella’s a mopey, humorless teen who keeps to herself, but as high school popularity is based 95% on looks, she falls in with a cool crowd. She’s drawn to Edward (Robert Pattinson), one of five impeccably coifed 17-year-old adoptive children of local doctor Carlisle Cullen (Peter Facinelli). He, however, acts strange towards her, at times unnaturally intrigued and at other times rudely repulsed.

Once they finally hash things out, it becomes clear that he indeed finds her appealing but for some reason feels it’s in her best interest if they don’t interact. Their mutual attraction can’t be contained, however, and Bella eventually puts two and two together to figure out that Edward and his clan are vampires. Edward explains that he can read minds, but he’s intrigued by the fact that hers is blocked. They quickly become more than friends, as he indoctrinates her into the ways of the vampire (apparently, they enjoy giving piggyback rides).

Twilight was an amazing movie!
i really liked the movie. i was looking forward to it for a while, and im really glad i saw it. it sounds weird, but for the most part, the only people who liked it are the true twilight fans. i really want to see it again though because it was amazing.
I think this movie was horrible.. It really wasnt as action packed as they made it seem. I think They should keep it to the books.
I loved the movie. It was great.
I’ve read all of the books and, in my opinion, the movie was just OKAY. It could’ve been better. Definitely was not AMAZING…
Not being a person who enjoys reading- I have to say this movie really was awesome to me. I’m definitely going to read the books and hopefully get better insight. Can’t wait to see the movie again :)
Enjoyed the series a lot. Also liked the movie.

Nude photos in cell phone lost at McDonald’s ends up online

Posted by Iflove Featured Stories on November 23, 2008 at 8:27 am

Nude photos of your wife on your cell phone, hang onto it. Phillip Sherman of Arkansas left phone behind at McDonald’s restaurant and photos ended up online.

Don’t keep nude pictures of your wife in your mobile phones. Never. If you don’t learn it, then you will be the next person concerned.

Nude photos in cell phone lost at McDonald’s ends up online. News from FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Here’s some food for thought: If you have nude photos of your wife on your cell phone, hang onto it.

Phillip Sherman of Arkansas learned that lesson after he left his phone behind at a McDonald’s restaurant and the photos ended up online. Now he and his wife, Tina, are suing the McDonald’s Corp., the franchise owner and the store manager.

The suit was filed Friday and seeks a jury trial and $3 million in damages for suffering, embarrassment and the cost of having to move to a new home.

The suit says that Phillip Sherman left the phone the Fayetteville store in July and that employees promised to secure it until he returned.

Manager Aaron Brummley declined to comment, and other company officials didn’t return messages.

The following are just comments, not from the author. Please leave views afterwards:

I dont get it, why would you have nude photos of your wife on your phone, when you can see her nude any time you want. ? Unless, your the one that put your wifes picture on the internet with her consent. The whole story sounds premeditated.

while, I am not a great supporter of GayDonalds, still this story sounds ridiculous. It is not clear whether employees found that phone or not. Maybe it was other customers. Furthermore, this story should be a lesson to other similar dummies out there. Nude pictures on the cell phone. :D

I fail to understand why he should have nude photos of his wife in his cell phone. Is it not unwise? Let’s see the outcome of the law suit.

The whole thing sounds ludicrous, No way Micky D’s
is responsible for someone losing their phone. Sounds like some-one is trying for one heck of a
christmas shopping spree. FAT-CHANCE with this one!
They will be lucky to get a free Happy Meal.

Suing McDonalds?Sounds to me like the woman who spilled hot coffee in her lap and wanted to get paid.Nice try,I doubt that you’ll get a dime.If it’s not a stunt to get money, perhaps you should keep better track of your phone, hmmmmm?

not the fault of mickey D’s. yeah maybe the staff looked at the photos and decided to have some fun. But (BUTT?) you should take better care of your phone, or whatever current technology that would compromise or expose your particular proclivities. “Yeah, we’ll keep your phone for ya” ‘between the lines, we’ll share what you share’. peace
McDonalds said they would lock the phone up for him. What took him so long to drive down and pick it up? Obviously too long. It was irresponsibility on his part. Just liket he lady from Wendy’s (the one that supposedly, found a finger in her chili) These days people will do anything to suck up all they money they can get out of a person. IDIOT GUY
This is really stupid. And i mean that person is dumb.

like many of you might think.. “why put your wife’s NAKED pictures in the phone?”
You’re the one who lost the phone, and NOT Mcdonald.
No one told you to put your wife’s NAKDE picture in the phone.
So it’s all YOUR problem.
Guess i’ll say… “” Serve you right “” LoL.

very stupid.Stupid to have the pictures on the phone.
Stupid not to password the phone.
Stupid not to password the pictures.
This is just like losing your wallet with the pictures in it.
Why do people do such stupid things. They deserve to be taken out the Gene pool!
I agree with the majority. It is NOT McDonalds fault. The guy is not taking responsibility for his lack of common sense.
Ya what was this guy thinking, he puts the pics on the phone but isnt smart enough to lock the pics or something. he is even more stupid to forget it somewhere
3 million times STUPID! and SHAME! for CLIENT AND LAWER FOR $3M lawsuit.
my question is this…why does the corp. have to pay for what a few idiot employees did? doesn’t seem fair to me. Sounds like greed or even maybe it was a setup from the begining?
As for the discussion of should someone have nude photos on their phone, most phones these days are also cameras. Some people use them as cameras MORE than as phones, they are also schedulers, and personal computers. They also contain personal phone numbers and other sensitive data, would you people also think it was fine if the Mcd’s employees posted all of the guys personal phone numbers, maybe bank his account info and such on the web? Probably not. The legal issue being sued over here is failing to secure the phone after saying they would do so, don’t get misled by the juicy fact that nude photos are involved.
Cover them both in special sauce and put that picture up on the internet.

Early Voting Exit Polls 2008: See Full Results on Presidential Election

Posted by Iflove Featured Stories on November 4, 2008 at 8:25 pm

Early Voting Exit Polls 2008: See Full Results on Presidential Election. For those looking to get details on the early voting exit polls in 2008 and the U.S. Presidential election results, then you have come to the right place.

What are Exit polls? These are surveys that are taken when a voter leaves their voting place; it’s taken from just a small percentage of voters and as such can only be taken lightly. With the actual result in elections taking hours to count, these polls help voters get news on how things are shaping.

In a matter of hours, you are going to start hearing talk of exit polls. We are going to post them ourselves, right here, in this entry.
But, before you get ahead of yourself, there’s a question that needs to be asked: Should you trust the exit polling data? The short answer is: No. The longer answer is: Noooooooooooo. Right now, if there’s one memory that remains — stinging.

A lot of people in here are very…ummm…. passionate.
I do agree with Dave par on the point that some of Obama’s ideas are socialist. However, I think Obama’s heart is in the right place, and the things he wants to accomplish are good things. The reason I did not vote for Obama is because having hopes and dreams is not a qualification to become president. You need to have the knowledge and experience to fulfill Americans hopes and dreams.

I too, want to see fewer people losing their homes. But I do not believe in taking money from someone who has more wealth, via luck or hard work, to pay for someone elses poor luck or poor choices. I do not believe anyone has the right to decide who is and who is not worthy to suceed in life.
Obama’s ideals are just that…IDEAL. They would work in a perfect world full of perfect people, but this world is far from perfect, and we people are full of flaws.

This is why I voted for McCain, not because I believe no one else in the world could do a better job, but because I believe he can do a better job than the Obama of today. Should Obama run again, with more experience under his belt and a better understanding of humanities limitations I may just vote for him.

Paid GOP workers say they misled Wis. voters. News from MADISON, Wis. – Four employees hired by a temporary staffing agency to encourage absentee voting for Republican presidential candidate John McCain say they were instructed to tell people they were GOP volunteers.

Kevin Kennedy, director of the state’s Government Accountability Board, said he received complaints that the workers were told to mislead voters into believing they were volunteers. The complaints have been forwarded to local district attorneys, he said, but it’s unclear whether the alleged deception would be a crime.

The employees told The Associated Press on Monday they were hired by Allstaff Labor Group to go door to door in the Milwaukee suburbs locating McCain supporters and distributing absentee ballot request forms. Allstaff recruited them under a contract with a consulting firm hired by the Republican Party of Wisconsin to run its absentee ballot program.

The workers claim they were told to say they were GOP volunteers even though they were getting paid $10 an hour. They were required to sign agreements stating they would not publicly discuss their work but said they decided to speak out because they were angry they had not been paid for the last few days. They claim they are owed between $200 and $300.

GOP spokeswoman Kirsten Kukowski confirmed there was a dispute over how many hours the employees worked and said the party’s vendor was working to resolve it.

She said the workers spent three weeks distributing the forms to McCain supporters around the state. The program’s managers were instructed to “accurately represent the program” to the workers, Kukowski said.

The paid employees, who were working at GOP offices alongside volunteers, may have picked up scripts intended for volunteers, she said.

“We did not instruct them to misrepresent themselves,” Kukowski wrote in an e-mail.

Allstaff representatives did not return phone messages seeking comment.

The agency was only one of many hired by GOP consulting firm Lincoln Strategy Group to run the party’s absentee ballot request distribution program.

“I told the Republican Party and Allstaff I wanted to know why we were lying to these residents,” said Loyalty Dixon, 26, who worked in Waukesha for about two weeks. “I said, `Isn’t that fraudulent?’ They didn’t give me a good explanation. They said, `You guys know you’re getting paid. Don’t worry about it.’”

She recalled getting praised by people for being a McCain supporter. Some even asked whether she was getting paid, she said.

“We had to lie to these people and say we were volunteers,” she said.

Three other employees shared similar stories.

“They had us say, `I’m volunteering for the Republican Party of Wisconsin,” said Marquis Mayes, 23. “I asked them, why would we say we were volunteers and we’re not? They didn’t have an answer for that.”

Obama votes as voters line up to cast ballots

Posted by Iflove Featured Stories on November 4, 2008 at 9:24 am

Obama votes as voters line up to cast ballots. News details: Democrat Barack Obama joined the nation’s earliest voters Tuesday as people around the nation began lining up to cast ballots in a historic election pitting Republican John McCain against the man seeking to become the first black president in U.S. history.

“I voted,” Obama said, holding up the validation slip he was handed after turning in a ballot at his Chicago neighborhood’s precinct. Accompanying the Illinois senator for the trip from their home to the polling station were his wife, Michelle, and their two young daughters. He planned a final campaign event in nearby Indiana before speaking to a massive evening rally in Chicago.

In Delaware, Democratic vice presidential candidate Joe Biden went to the polls with his elderly mother.

McCain was expected to vote later in the morning in Arizona before taking a last-minute trek to Colorado and New Mexico.

McCain’s running mate, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, arrived in Anchorage overnight to wait for polls to open in her hometown of Wasilla. She was to return to the airport to fly to Phoenix to join McCain in time to watch results come in.

Although the path to an Electoral College triumph appeared narrow for McCain — polls showed Obama with an advantage in many of the battleground states they have contested in the campaign’s final weeks — the Arizona senator remained hopeful for a surprise victory.

“I think these battleground states have now closed up, almost all of them, and I believe there’s a good scenario where we can win,” McCain told CBS’ “The Early Show” in an interview broadcast Tuesday.

“Look, I know I’m still the underdog, I understand that,” McCain said. “You can’t imagine, you can’t imagine the excitement of an individual to be this close to the most important position in the world, and I’ll enjoy it, enjoy it. I’ll never forget it as long as I live.”

Obama campaign manager David Plouffe said he was confident that new voters and young voters would fuel an enormous turnout to benefit the Illinois senator.

“We just want to make sure people turn out,” Plouffe told “Today” on NBC. “We think we have enough votes around the country.”

Standing in line in one of the battleground states, Ahmed Bowling of Alexandria, Va., said the election “will mark a significant change in the lives of all Americans, and so we do have to come out as early as possible to cast our votes.”

In Brooklyn, N.Y., 49-year-old Venus Kevin said the line at her precinct was “already down the block and around the corner” when she arrived shortly before 6 a.m. EST.

“Obama is the man,” said Kevin, who is black. “His message and his vision has reached a lot of people, not just African-Americans.”

The contest put the 47-year-old Obama, a first-term Illinois senator who rocketed to stardom on the power of his oratory and a call for change, against the 72-year-old McCain, a 26-year lawmaker whose mettle was tested during 5 1/2 years as a prisoner of war in Vietnam.

“I’m feeling kind of fired up. I’m feeling like I’m ready to go,” Obama told nearly 100,000 people gathered for his final rally Monday night in Virginia.

“At this defining moment in history, Virginia, you can give this country the change it needs,” Obama said to voters in a state that hasn’t voted for a Democratic presidential nominee in 44 years.

The Illinois senator’s final day of campaigning was bittersweet: He was mourning the loss of his grandmother, Madelyn Dunham, who helped raise him. She died of cancer Sunday night, never to see the results of the election.

Stock prices suffers steep losses as dire recession forecasts shake markets

Posted by Iflove Featured Stories on October 25, 2008 at 7:07 am

Stocks bomb as dire warnings shake markets. Stock prices suffered steep losses Friday as dire recession forecasts drove the global financial system into one of its most sickening downward lurches since the credit crisis began.

Story Highlights
NEW: Dow Jones loses more than 300 points
CAC-40 in Paris, Frankfurt’s DAX, FTSE 100 in London suffer heavy falls
South Korea’s KOSPI dives 10.6 percent, Nikkei loses 9.6 percent
Economic turmoil will be focus of two-day summit in Beijing, EU leader says

Markets are enduring one of their most painful days since the financial crisis began.

According to early tallies, the Dow Jones industrial average fell 312 points, or 3.6 percent.

The Dow slumped as much as 504 points in the morning but came back to within 112 points of breakeven in the final hours before falling back.

The Standard & Poor’s 500 index fell 3.5 percent and the Nasdaq composite slid 3.2 percent. All three indexes closed at five-year lows.

“The selling today is the result of the broad weakness overseas,” said Michael Sheldon, chief market strategist at RDM Financial Group.

European and Asian markets also took a battering.

In Britain, where the government said Friday its economy had shrunk to the brink of recession in the third quarter of 2008 — news that sent the pound plunging against the dollar — the FTSE 100 dropped by 9 percent at one point. See how the markets are falling

The FTSE recouped some of its losses to end the day down 5.0 percent. Frankfurt’s DAX, earlier charting losses of 10 percent, rallied to also finish 5.0 percent lower while the Paris CAC index was 3.5 percent down.

With market convulsions toppling the price of oil from recent record highs, an emergency meeting of OPEC nations decided to slash output by nearly 5 percent in an effort to prevent a market collapse. But despite the cut, oil prices continued to fall.

It was also announced Friday that Iceland is nearing a deal to borrow up to $2.1 billion from the International Monetary Fund to prop up its economy, the IMF and Icelandic Prime Minister Geir Haarde’s office said.

Iceland’s stock market crashed earlier this month and the government nationalized of three of the country’s biggest banks. Trading on the country’s stock market was suspended for nearly a week.

Looming recession fears were exacerbated Thursday by Alan Greenspan, the former head of the U.S. Federal Reserve, who warned of a “credit tsunami” and confessed he was baffled as to how the financial system has broken down.

In Moscow, trading was halted in both main exchanges at one point as concerns that falling oil prices would hurt the economy triggered sharp falls. AFP news agency reported both markets would be closed until Tuesday.

Asian markets also endured a painful session with South Korea’s KOSPI Composite Index closing down 10.6 percent and Japan’s Nikkei Exchange dropping 9.6 percent to a 5-year low on news Sony had halved its profit forecast.

Mumbai’s Sensex index closed near a three-year low having fallen 10.96 percent.

Oil producing cartel OPEC announced at an emergency meeting Friday it was cutting output by 1.5 million barrels to try to halt a collapse of in prices that has seen crude value drop by more than half.

The reduction failed to have an immediate impact, with crude trading down to around $62 a barrel — compared to the record $147.27 it reached in July.

The economic turmoil will be the focus of the two-day, 43-nation Asia-Europe Meeting, which opens Friday in Beijing, according to European Union President Jose Manuel Barroso. Watch how European and Asian leaders hope to tackle the crisis

Leaders hope this week’s summit in China will help bring agreement on a response to the crisis ahead of a November 15 meeting hosted by U.S. President George W. Bush in Washington.

“We need a coordinated global response to reform the global financial system. We are living in unprecedented times and we need unprecedented levels of global coordination,” The Associated Press reported Barroso as saying.

“It’s very simple. We swim together or we sink together.” Barroso outlined no specific proposals but said a solution needed to be based on transparency, responsibility, cross-border supervision and global governance. He also said the world’s financial system needed “major reform.”
Greenspan, who chaired the U.S. Federal Reserve from 1987 through 2006, said Thursday that whatever regulatory changes were made to respond to the crisis, “they will pale in comparison to the change already evident in today’s markets.”Do we really need to rebuild, asks Charles Hodson

Greenspan, who some analysts say did not do enough to control financial institutions during his two-decade tenure, made his comments in prepared testimony to the House of Representatives Oversight and Reform Committee.
