Sharon Stone Remarks On Chinese Earthquake: Is That Karma?
Last week in Cannes at the annual amFAR fundraiser for which she annually plays auctioneer, Sharon Stone chatted her way down the red carpet. Stopping to talk to a cluster of microphones, she was asked about the Chinese earthquake, the death toll for which tops 67,000 with over 20,000 still missing.
As seen below (on a Chinese broadcast, so excuse the Chinese introduction), Stone was asked her thoughts about the quake, wondered aloud if it was karma, and said the following:
“Well, you know, it was very interesting, because at first I am not happy about the way Chinese are treating the Tibetans because I don’t think anybody should be unkind to anybody else… Then I’ve been concerned about how should we deal with the Olympics because they’re not being nice to the Dalai Lama, who’s a good friend of mine. And then all this earthquake, and all this stuff happened, I thought, is that karma? When you are not nice, the bad things happen to you. And then I got a letter from the Tibetan foundation that they wanted to go and be helpful, and that made me cry… That was a big lesson to me.”
Maybe in this case she could try feeling instead of thinking. Note to Americans - the Chinese are people too.
This is typical religious thinking…. shallow, vengeful, punitive. She’s right there with the majority of Americans.
i dislike sharon stone — but the karma thing doesn’t work here. the people that died and were injured and who lost loved ones and their homes in that quake were not the people who repressed the people of tibet. the evil ones who do the evil things probaly didn’t get a scratch on them or even fee lthe earth move and they couldn’t care any less about those affected by the quake as they do about the people in tibet, or tiannamen square, or who are killed for their organs.
So, basically Sharon was thinking:
9/11: Not Karma.
Hurricane Jeanne: Not Karma.
Kashmiri earthquake: Not Karma.
Hurricane Katrina: Not Karma.
Indian Ocean earthquake: Not Karma.
Darfur: Not Karma.
Myanmar cyclone: Not Karma.
Chinese earthquake: Karma.
WTF?
At least the TV Evangelists can claim to be consistent. Of course, it helps to hate people living in 95% of the world.
9/11: God hates Jews and gays.
Hurricane Jeanne: God hates Haitians.
Kashmiri Earthquake: God hates Muslims.
Katrina: God hates black people.
Indian Ocean: God hates Asians.
Darfur: God hates Africans.
Myanmar cyclone: God hates Asians (Part 2).
Chinese Earthquake: God hates Asians (Part 3).
Sharon, you haven’t made any movies in quite sometime.
Is that Karma too, or are you a has been that never made it really big ?
One more thing, that fault line where the earthquake occurred also hapens to run thru Tibet; thought I let you know.
